This is a spacious and welcoming two-bedroom accommodation. It’s ideal for families and small groups with one bedroom that has a king-sized bed and a second bedroom that can be a king or queen size bed. Each bedroom has its own bathroom. We also have an outdoor shower – shared with the Cabana – which is great for use after being on the beach all day. There is a fully equipped kitchen, and private verandas overlooking beautiful views.
On the same site as the guesthouse but not too close, the Cabana is perfect for couples or solo travellers. The Cabana offers a simple off-grid retreat immersed in nature. It has a queen size bed and a well-equipped outdoor kitchen. It has an outdoor shower and toilet so expect tranquility and fresh air.
Frangipani EcoLodge is located on the northeast Atlantic coast of Barbuda. Barbuda is part of the twin island state of Antigua and Barbuda, which is in the Eastern Caribbean.
There are international flights to Antigua. Once you arrive in Antigua you can catch the ferry (one and a half hours) or small plane to Barbuda (twenty minutes). We will meet you and show you around the village of Codrington and then drive you to your location.
We offer a Cabana that sleeps two and a Guesthouse that sleeps four. Each can be rented separately, or together as a private group retreat. The two accommodations are just a few minutes walk from each other, with the beach a five-minute walk away, across the sand dunes. There are also two shady beach huts on the beach - one for each property - but share them if you would like too.
Yes, if you book both the guesthouse and the cabana together. Or if we have no other bookings you will be on your own.
But if we have both the guesthouse and cabana booked separately, you will share the beach and maybe a campfire with other like-minded, adventurous independent travellers like yourselves! And there may be children or local people fishing. But no pets - just donkeys.
Yes, Frangipani Eco-Lodge is a small, low-impact, locally owned, sustainable business. It has been built by local builders to work in harmony with Barbuda’s natural environment. It is owned by two young Barbudans who live on Barbuda and was started after Hurricane Irma. The property is solar-powered and makes thoughtful use of water (we have our own well) and other resources, while preserving the surrounding landscape and natural habitat. With just a Cabana and Guesthouse, we offer an intimate way to experience Barbuda’s beaches, wildlife, incredible dark skies, village life, and peaceful island environment with a lighter footprint and with interaction with friendly, local people.
We are surrounded by opportunities to engage with nature. You may see stingray, fish, lobster and try and catch them with our lobster lassoes. You can walk for miles. You can drive to a different beach every day. You can sit in our hammocks and read a book. If you get bored, you can go on a tour. No breakfast is not included. Frangipani is a self-catering accommodation, and we recommend that you bring your first meal with you. However, each accommodation includes a fully equipped kitchen where you can prepare your own meal, or you can enjoy local food that can be found at various places on the island. Barbuda is unique among Caribbean islands and is slowly developing into a destination of its own.
Frangipani eco-lodge is intentionally remote because we loved this bit of the coastline and this is where we decided to build it. There are no streetlights or surrounding hotels. There is no noise beyond the wind and the ocean. However, although it is remote, it's not far from many other places of interest - and the famous pink sand beaches of Barbuda. It's just that the roads are really bad.
This experience is best suited for adventurous independent travellers seeking beach life, connection with local people and a chance to disconnect from busy life.
Yes, it is the perfect destination for children. We have hosted babies, toddlers and teenagers (with their parents...!) We can help you by providing a highchair, a travel crib and books, games and toys. We have a canoe for good swimmers, but this should not be taken over the reef.
Children love playing at the beach, which is only a few minutes walk over the sand dunes. The beach has a protective reef which makes it calmer but children should not be left there unsupervised. There are lots of lizards and hermit crabs to chase and camps to build. This is the space for them.
